Produced in the 1960s before the FD series, Canon FL lenses carry a distinctly older optical character. Compared to later Canon glass, the FL set feels softer, more luminous, and more responsive to light: with highlight bloom, warmer rendering, and signature golden flares when pushed into direct sources.

Canon FL lenses sit at the earlier, more expressive end of the Limelight collection. Compared to Canon FD, the FL set feels softer, glowier, and less controlled. Highlights bloom more easily, flares shift warmer and more golden, and the image carries a slightly older feeling that is hard to replicate with modern glass.
For DPs, this set is best when the image needs atmosphere: something more emotional, less clinical, and shaped by the way light hits the lens.
